Dear Genesee Valley Family,
I’d like to take this chance to introduce myself as the new
7-12 Principal here at Genesee Valley Central School starting officially on Mon. September 26th. My name is Mark Carls and I’ve been married
to my lovely wife Jennifer Carls for 15 years.
Jen works as a Pre-K/Special Education teacher at Portville Central
School. We have three children:
Thomas (11- entering 7th grade)
Ashley (9- entering 4th grade)
Marissa (6- entering 1st grade)
They attend Portville Central School and we all love the community of Portville. One of my greatest compliments to you is that I’ve felt the same here at Genesee Valley and I’m excited to start building positive relationships with people at Genesee Valley and in the surrounding communities.
I’ve been in education for the last 19 years. After growing up in Allegany, I went to college at SUNY Fredonia and started my teaching career at Chautauqua Lake Central School. At Chautauqua Lake I taught High School Math for 7 years as well as coached Varsity Soccer and Basketball. I took the same position at Southwestern High School while my wife was on maternity leave to keep me closer to our house in Jamestown. I taught at Southwestern for a little over 3 years before joining CABOCES. While I was at CABOCES I worked with all 22 component school districts. My focus was on professional development for Math, tech integration and Dignity for All Students. However, I helped provide other professional development opportunities as they arose.
Throughout my educational career my approach has been to make sure I build positive relationships with all stakeholders. My focus here will be to make decisions that put our GVCS students’ needs first. By being visible before, during and after the school day I hope to lead by example as a positive role model for our Jaguar students, staff and community. I want to make sure that everyone realizes I’m here to help Genesee Valley remain one of the top schools in our area.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please
feel free to contact me. Plus, please come by the High School main office to say 'hi' to Pam Winterhalter and myself!
